Latoya, Can you believe that we are at the last book? This poetry book, 'Just Around the Corner'is written by Leland B. Jacobs and illustrated by Jeff Kaufman. All the poems focus on the central theme of seasons ( summer, winter, autumn and spring. Evidences of free verse, rhyming, alliteration, imagery and repitition are evident in these poems. What are you insights Latoya?
ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoy all the poems in this book. All twenty five exuberant and playful poems celebrate the tastes, sights and sounds of the seasons. Readers can share the joy of jumping in autumn leaves, following tracks in the snow, feeling the first cool spring rain and playing at the shore on a sunny day. This is an exciting poetry collection for any time of the year.
ReplyDeleteThe poems are reader friendly.athe language is simple and the illustrations are bold and attractive. The illustrations are not pictures. They are illustrations/drawings.The illustrations are not crowded. They depict what the story is about, evidence of rain was seen during the winter while evidence of sun was seen during the summer. The cover illustrations show that the book can appeal to both genders , as a boy and a girl are illustrated smiling. This book should appeal to children of all ages but I would use it specifically with cildren ages 8-12. Teachers can use this book to teach seasons, weather, climate and temperature.
The tone of the poems are lighthearted, fun and enjoyment. All figure of speech is evident throughout this book but personification is more dominant. This book has a multicultural appeal. It provides opportunity to learn from a multicultural perspective. For example, everyone may not experience halloween but opportunity is provided for them to learn about halloween though poetry.Poems are very appealing and I am fascinated by the different shapes of these poems.Latoya I am at the end of the blogging activity. It feels so good.
ReplyDeleteCertainly Pameilia time really flies . Now theis is from the poetry genre. There is authentic beauty in the way the these twenty five poems were written and complied to provoke the senses whilst thinking about the different seasons. Just Around the Corner Poems about the seasons 'Just Around the Corner is written by Leland B. Jacobs and illustrated by Jeff Kaufman is a book that truly not only provoke the senses but imagery as well
ReplyDeleteAs is archetypal of poetry, these poems were filled with rhymes and rhythms. The seasons theme ran during the book telling the liberty of summer for children and the frolicking and so on for each season . Each poem is considerably aided by the illustrations that accurately depict the content in the poems and further demonstrates the setting and the appeal.
ReplyDeleteThe use of language was really rich for me and I had fun identifying and parts of speech as they were prolifically used . The colors used change in collaborating with the seasons which quite effectively aided interpretation.
Our students do not get the kind of exposure they need in reading poetry of varying genre and I believe this collection would provide good reading material for students especially at the grades five and six level since at that grade they have an entire unit focused on adventures with books and exploring poetry. After interaction with these poems and the imagery they evoke am confident that they will be able to write their own poetry for their anthology. They could write their own. Even making critical responses after they have read .
