TRADITIONAL LITERACY
ReplyDeleteRapunzel writen by Paul O Zelinsky is a traditiona nvel written primariy for children but enjoyed by adults as well.It tells the story of a young couple and the choices that they make which eventually affects them. I like the bok not only is it entertaining but itbut it teachs a lesson that one should not give up on what you want inlife perserverance is the key.
TRADITIONAL LITERACY
ReplyDeleteThe story has all the characteristics of traditional literature. There is no known author since the story started in the oral tradition, the plot is simple, the setting is in the distant past and the characters do not change much throughout the story. It is a story that I am acquainted with since childhood. It speaks to the imagination and cuases one to have dreams of beating the odds and achieving your dreams
The language builds voabulary even in its simplistic form,it is also written to evoke interest and the plot is so interesting that you cant wait to reach the end to find out what the outcome is going to be.The setting created by the auhor conjures of images of what living in that era would be like. The illustrations were a "bomb" they were colourful vivid and matched the exact stage of the story that was unfolding. The illustrations also allowed you to make predictions. This novel can be used to teach listening skills sequencing, and descriptive writing, and is suitable for grade3 and 4.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to what you say Moynia I think this is a great story to help children streach their imagination and promote thier creative and critical thinking skills. It is intersting though that Zelinsky adds a twist to the story, I didn't know until now that Rapunzel had gotten pregnant. I know that today's children would certainly ask what happened in the tower. I think its a great book for children both younger and older children. The theme of the power of love is very potent, but there is also the theme of perseverance and goog versus evil. Finally, I think this story help prepares children to deal with the complexities of life.
