ReplyDeleteHi Candice
ReplyDeleteThis story “Croaking Johnny and Dizzy Lizzy” is coming on so nicely. Just going by the title makes me wonder what will happen as the plot thickens. The elements of the story, that is the setting, plot, theme, characters and climax are ideal for the purpose. The language of the story is excellent and the pictures are befitting to the storyline.
Let us continue to read Candice to ascertain what happens next.

Mufuro’s Beautiful Daughters is a well written modern fable that teaches children the importance of being honest and patient. The illustrations are large and colourful. They represent stunning paintings that glow with beauty, warmth and internal vision of the land and people. It is written in a language that is easy to follow and it is clear why the book was awarded a Caldecott medal.

Nicola, I will remain resolute in my decision that, as it relates to genre, sometimes I become confused. I think this is due to the fact that some books fall under more than one genres. I however believe the book is a modern fable. Do you agree? Let me know?

ReplyDeleteNicola, remember that during our discussion, we agreed that the literary quality of Mufuro’s Beautiful Daughter’s is good because the reader is actually engaged until the very end. The reader will be excited to find out what is going to happen next as the plot unfolds. The setting spurs thoughts of excitement, and will always have the children at the edge of their seats in terms of wanting to continue.

‘Meet Danitra Brown’, is a spirited collection of thirteen poems underlined by two, warm unforgettable little girls, and a warm , real portrait of true friendship. It’s very interesting to note that the author has actually used poetry to introduce two little girls to a host of other children who will be able to relate to them either by way of similar culture or through the creation of a vicarious experience. The poems will appeal to children because of the way they are written and the things they teach. The rhymes create a rhythm to which a creative teacher can allow children to use music to even enjoy the book more.

ReplyDeleteIn terms of literary quality, I must agree that the writer’s style of writing has enhanced the quality of the book by far. The themes are relevant and befitting and children can always learn a lesson or two in each poem. The characters are unique and believable, do you agree Nicole? The illustrations are real and life to the book. As a child reads along, I can see wherein tension can be built up in that the child will want to always know what is going to happen next. Another literary quality that adds appeal to the book is the tone. The tone of the books reflects enthusiasm. Do you agree Nicks? Let me hear from you soon.
