  1. Our poetry book is entitled 'Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant'. It is written by Jack Prelutsky and illustrated by Carin Berger.
y personal response is that the book is entertaining having many'nonsense' poems with numerous made up words.

  3. Karen, we have to look at this book through the eyes of a child. The poems are about ordinay things, clocks, toasters, umbrellas etc. but there is a twist to it and that is what the children will love.

  4. Yes, I notice the play on words-toadster, clocktupuss. I also notice that it is loaded with rhyme and thythm. As you say, children will love it but I am not fully pursuaded. I agree that they are nonsense poems and maybe should be used for fun and relaxation. They can also teach rhymes if you want to do something serious.

  5. There are 17 poems in this book all brighly illustrated. The are based on a variety of topics but mainly on things around the house that children can relate to.
Unfortunately i could not find a review on Amazon.com.

  6. Yes, the illustration shows that the book is definitely for kindergarten to lower primary grades. These children will appreciate these types of poems. From these poems the teacher could encourage the children to write their own. Here she could introduce the different types, concrete, limerick, narrative etc.
