The traditional Fantasy was done for the Biograpy
ReplyDelete1. Your personal response to the book.
I love the book because it has things in it I could relate to. Such as the main character behaviour is liken unto a mule because at times she would be stubborn just like me when I was a child living with my grandmother.
2. What genre you think it might be and why
It is a Traditional Fantasy that is retold by African American using aspects of African American language. For example the use of the word holler instead of the word said.
3. Evaluate its literary quality
Its setting is country area of America. Its plot is simple in that as you read you will learn what happen to Leola. It conflict is the Leola being lost in the woods because of disobedience and finding her way home. In addition its mood gives me a sense of innocent, fear and happiness. In addition its font size and style represent what the illustrations- Paper Honey pie was written in large, BIG, BIG, pie and Baby Bea’ pie was written as little, little, pie.
4. Evaluate its illustrations
The book’s illustrations are large and are of bright colours which are directly related to the Black culture.
In addition they give a visual representation of the text, thus helping the reader to have a better understanding of what was read.
5. Discuss for whom the book is intended and the ways in which it might be used in the classroom
It is suitable for children the primary level and can be used in class for Read Aloud. I would mainly use it for Read Aloud because the children would be curious as to not will happen next to Leola.
This book would be among my top choices as selection for children. The distinct and colourful illustration is attractive. The use of colours is effective in creating the feeling of danger and the unknown that gives the reader a sense that the main character is heading into danger.
ReplyDeleteThe text presentation, with the use of zig zagged phrase to help create the mood of the story and for example, the large bold font size create the perception in the readers mind of Papa Bear’s size.
what do you think about additional characters that were added to the story and why were they put in the story?
ReplyDeleteI think it is creative that the author included the grandmother in the story.Did you notice too that the Bear family hosted party with the other animals. These were new twists in the story.
