  1. Latoya let me start off the discusssion with the historiocal fiction book. The title is 'Death of the Iron House' and it is written by Paul Goble.Paul Goble's vivid words present a moment in cheyenne history as the young participants might have told it; a moment of success in their valiant struggle against the thrust of white settlement and progress. His illustrations from the prophet's vision which begins the account, to the sombre yet triumphant final spread, depict event and emotion superbly.

  2. I was truly wowed by this book. I like the patriarchal strength depicted in the story. This story has remembered the brave young men who defended their mothers and younger brothers and sisters from the Iron Horse.Whoever could have imagined that, almost within their lifetime, the Iron horse would become the train on which we all ride? I like the use of recycling. They did not discard the remains of the iron horse. They instead use it to make trains from which all persons can benefit.Another lesson is learnt here. POWER OF RECYCLING.

  3. Latoya the story paints such a brilliant picture of imagery. I was totally captivated by the author's writing style. Before reading I really thought that the Iron Horse was depicting a story about a real horse. During reading I learnt that the horse was used symbolically to represent a train. The strong use of adjectives add life to the story e.g. terrible dream, awful sadness and enormous snake.
During follow up readings I learnt that there are fictional tales which gave account of many trains being wrecked by Indian people. History however stated that this happened only once, on August 7, 1867. This derailment was only a minor incident but one that the cheyenne people have remembered with pride and amusement. This book is quite appropriate for within the age group 9-12.
This book can be used to teach racial groups, transportion, Early Inhabitants.
The thematic concerns border on courage, strength, bravery, protection and unity.

  4. Death of the Iron Horse is a “traditionally defined” story that was written and illustrated by Paul Goble This story is reflects a that of the non-fiction category. The story illustrates the advent of the train and the reactions from the Cheyenne People . There reflected is ignorance and self pity as they fought to protect their people from the train . That which became the train in their owm lifetime . The story was quite pleasurable as it was intertwined with much humor of that made the book a good read.

  5. I believe at all points in our lives we have times when we must adjust to a situation.I would like to point the discussion towards the illustrations in the book . The illustrations i believe are well done and complement the text thoroughly. The book also depict the lengths that these people wentthrough to protect what they considered their own. If we should take the time to examine teh facial expression we would realize the solemn yet triumphant pictures that depicted events and emotions.
