Hi all
ReplyDeleteWhen Riddles come Rumbling: Poems to Ponder
Author: Rebecca Kai Dotlich
Illustrator: Karen Dugan
When Riddles come Rumbling" is a compilation of poems written in riddle form. I particularly enjoyed the book because as I read each line it causes me to think about what the poet is talking about. I would use this with my students as it will give them an opportunity to use their thinking skills. I also liked the rhythmic nature of each poem. What do you think about the pictures? Do you think the illustrator did a good job at illustrating each poem?
Hi Carolyn/Mazie
ReplyDeleteI really like to listen to poems. This complilation of peoms " When Riddles come Rumbling" was new to me. At first, when i read the first poem, I said what! then I re-read the title, I couldnt figure out what the poem was talking about. I then started to view the illustrations to figure out the answer to the riddle, after that the answers to the poems were more fore-coming as the pictures gives you an idea of what the poem is about.
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteThe illustrations actually gave the clues. I particularlt like the one about clocks. Another thing i liked about the poems is how short they were. Do you think children would enjoy reading these poems? What follow up could they do with it?
Holla Caro, i had no idea that poems could be written in riddled form.I kind of admire the illustrations which took me a while to realize that clues and the answers are skillfully captured in the illustrations.Children will definately enjoy reading, the writing style is attractive, even instances where the writing forms the shape of the object being written about.Their follow up activities could see them creating similar poems using the riddles they already know,or add rhythmn to form dub poems for music class.
