Book: The Soup Stone
ReplyDeleteAuthor/Illustrator: Iris VanRynbach
Traditional Lit.
I really enjoyed this book. In it there is a lesson for all of us. I like that the author is also the illustrator, She captures life on a farm as how we would imagine it if there were no pictures. This story reminds me of a story in the bible: Elisha and the Shanomitte woman. The book is very easy to read,I would use this book across all grades. What do you think about the moral in the story?
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteThis book is truly traditional fiction as there is no evidence of time in it. Did you notice the start of the story how it said "long ago". There are also many version to the same story with no one knwong where it really started. My impression of the book is that it is has a easy polt and would be easily understoon. My four year old would really enjoy listening to this story knowing too that soup is her favourite meal and often when she prentends play she is always cooking soup. Why do you think there are so many version to the one book? Do you think it would be nice to give it a Jamaica flavour?
Yes ! I do think we could give it a Jamaican flavour. Our version of the story though would be a bit different when it comes to the ingredients in the pot. As you know you cant make a pot of soup in Jamaica without dumplin or your faviourite kind of soup meat.Anyway, like you said the plot is very simple and interesting, it's something that everyone can relate to. What do you think Mazie about the plot in "Soup Stone"
ReplyDeleteHi Guys,I enjoyed reading this book. This is the first experience i have seen with the text. The idea of giving a Jamaican twist sounds creative and exciting.i like how each family member partipated and at the end,the soup wasGOOD!Colloborative efforts will indeed work wonders, a reminder of family literacies.
ReplyDeleteHi guys,
ReplyDeleteI wonder if giving it a Jamaican flavor if they would still use a stone. It would be an interesting story to hear with a Jamaican theme.
