First Graders From Mars,Episode 1:Horus's Horrible Day.
ReplyDeleteStory by Shana Corey
Pictures by Mark Teague.
Hi Ver& Caro, I would like yo have this book in my library.
The plot is easy to follow, the genre depicts Modern Fantasy.A beautiful Read Aloud piece of text when doing a lesson on The Planets. The illustrations are brightly coloured and attractive,i love the idea of the teacher floating ,this allows her to keep an eye on all her students, sounds just like us.Horus is certainly reminding us of the transition students will be making coming September from one class to the next.Which age group do you think this would be suitable for?
Hi all
ReplyDeleteI think this book is suitable for children leaving kindergarten and going on to Grade one. I too enjoyed the plot too and children that age can easily relate to it. This is a good examlpe of a modern fantacy as the author used ficticious and out of this world characters. I think little children will really enjoy the book as at this stage their minds are imaginative. Do you think this book is for any particular culture?
Hi guys,
ReplyDeletei totally agree with you Mazie, being a first grade teacher I need to have this book for september.I went through this last year with my students. I realized that most of them were looking for the same things they had and did at pre-school. It takes take at least a term for them to make the necessary transition. Mazie, this book is for first graders children between the ages of 6-7
Hi Caro,
ReplyDeleteI too enjoyed this book. The illustrator knows exactly the kind of characters that appeals to children. He did a wonderful job. This book is for every culture. Children of all diverse culture have experience this kind of first grade blues.I like the setting the ficticious characters. And most importantly, both pre-school and first grade teachers can use this book when their students are moving on to 1st grade or at the beginning of 1st grade to set to prepare them for whats ahead. Helping them to make the transition.
Hi Ver,I totally agree with you, this book spans across cultures. The characters are facinating and children do enjoy stories about space . The theme is easily followed ,the plot relates to real life situations.
ReplyDeleteHi all, just to add that children enjoy make believe and I can only imagine their imagination going wild as the listen the story and look at the pictures.
