  1. The story of Ruby Bridges is very informative. Here a little girl with strong determination over come the problem. She was able to pray for them despite the fact that she was not welcome in their schol.

  2. This book highlights the struggles of African American familes in the past. Children of African descent were not allowed to go to the same schools as their white counterparts. This brave little girl weaved a path for many other African American children. She is a hero.

  5. The genre is historical Fiction. It helps children to make meaningful, personal connections with the past. Children can learn about histoey in a fun way. If this information was presented in a textbook it may not have had this appeal. I enjoyed reading the book. Growing up in Jamaica as children we did not have these kinds of struggles. I can't help but wonder how would I deal with this situation if I were an African American child at the time.

  6. Ruby's mother too I would say is very brave. Why because she placed her trust in a system that condemns the same set of people in the first place. Yes lorna all blacks benefited from her bravery.

  10. The characters fitted into the setting. The scene showing Ruby's family worshiping at chursh was very outstanding. It represented the way many African American families would look and act in church.

  12. This book is intended for children fro k-5.
I would be a little hesitant to use this story in a class of majority white students, as I am not sure how they would react. But I would be willing to use it in a class where the population of the class is majority black, during black history month. Stories like these help children to appreciate the struggles of others for priviliges they nw enjoy.

  13. I would show the white what us black had gone through in order to have rights and priviledges in the world.dihlia definitely disagree.

  15. It is easy to talk like this when you are teaching in Jamaica.Teaching in America is new for me . I am not sure if I am ready to tread that ground.
Teaching here is different from teaching in Jamaica. Parents may take offense to this. It is not as simple as you think. Parents have a lots of power here, girl.

  19. To use this book in my classroom. I would allow students to work in groups . Each group of student will be given a book to read and then present the story to the class. It could be a powerPoint presentation. role-playing or drama, whatever they are comfortable with.

  20. I agree with you Lorna. Older students may be better able to deal with such sensitive issues, as they are more mature.
