  1. This was a fun book to read, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has universal appeal, as children all over the world can identify with Christmas and Santa Claus.

  3. I thought it was very interesting. In the story only the children could hear the ringing of the bell. The pictures were very fitting as they set you in a mood and allows you to visualzie the journey to the north pole. Reading and turning the pages I felt as if I was on the Pole Express.

  4. The genre of this book is,Modern Fantasy because it depicts a modern fancy story about Christmas and children's expectation from Santa Claus. Reindeer, gifts, sleigh and sleighbells you name it.

  5. Another part that makes it Modern Fantasy is that the author created an alternative universe. This was evident when the children too a trip to the north pole to santa and his elves.

  7. The dramtic questions that I kept asking myself. Will he ever proove to his friend the santa exsisted and will he ever find his bill?

  8. The plot was quite interesting. My dramatic question ws, Would he find the bell? and if he did what would he do with it? The characters were real, the children in the train in their pygamas conductors, parents and his sister. I think the story would have been more appealing if the main character had a name. His sister too.

  12. The theme had an universal appeal as children all the world either believed in santa or heard about him living in the North pole. The Author used a lot of descriptive words. Such as crossed a barren desert of ice and lights of strage ocean liner sailing on a frozen sea

  13. Beautiful language and great use of sensory details. This statement really piqued my interest. In reference to the train,"It was wrapped in an apron of steam". Isn't this pretty?

  15. This book is intended for students K-5. I would use it in my class during out story sharing hour after lunch, round about the Christmas season. As students would be in the holiday mode, gift shopping and trying to good so they can get their gifts from Santa.I would use the bold beautiful illustrations to heighten their interest as I read the story to them.
After listening to the story. I would allow volunteers to share their experiences with Santa with the class.

  16. That is interesting AND it does relate to the culture here. However in Jamaica I would use it to expose my students to this life maybe in read aloud. Then i would allow them to write a letter of thanks to Santa Claus for their pretend gift.

  17. The suggessted age group would be appropriate. How I would use it with my class. I would take away the prints and have them in groups writing their own words for the pictures since they are beautiflly illustrated. Then I would read the story and we conpare and comtrast stories it may also be varied by using animals the see in Jamaica.
