Hi Authurine,
ReplyDelete"The book entitled"The Fox"is very fascinating from cover to cover. The pictures, throughout the book, the illustrations, the background and the poetic slant make me want to read more and more. Just as I started to read,I came to the
end. The words or language used do not only make clear the events of the story but stir emotion.
Ruth I agree I find this book to be most enjoyable. What is more appealing for me though, is its New England countryside setting which gives the feeling of autumn with its bright brownish yelllow colours. I can understand also why you said the book is short . The author doesn't use a lot of words to convey what he has to say his poetic slant were very effective.
ReplyDeleteAuthurine, you are right, the author does not use a lot of words but though few, they make the writing, attractive, interesting and vivid. The rhyming element and repetitions create a memorable effect. They do not only identify the setting but make the plot clear.
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth,
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of genre is the book? I think it fits traditinal fantasy of the category Fables, because of the following reasons . The main character is an aminal, the story has only three characters it is definately short and entertaining with a poetic slant. what are your thoughts?
test
ReplyDeleteAuthurine, fables are about animals that can talk and act like people. This does not encompass all that the definition of fables entail but in the story ,fox acted like a human being when he caught the duck and flung it across his back.Throwing things across the back is a human trait. Therefore I share your view that the genre falls in the category you mentioned.
ReplyDeleteYes Ruth the Fox does act like a human being i can just see my students especially the boys having fun with this book.
ReplyDeleteAuthurine,I think the book was written for young children. It is suitable for a Grade one class but it is great for children who have reading disabilities too, because of its repetitive aspects andlarge colourful illustrations. The colours will stimulate them and boost their interest in the book. I think the book will stimulate both boys and girls. How can we use it in the classroom? Let us explore this?
ReplyDeleteRuth I agree this book would be a great tool for young children at the emergent literacy stage and there are lots of activities they could do with it.Activiies such as word sort and menory games readily comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea,Authurine.Roles in literature circles could be used also.Children could be assigned different roles which include: discussant, connector, vocabulary enhancer, artful
ReplyDeleteartist and summarizer. This methodology will help to further develop students discussion skills, oral language skills and comprehension skills. The role can be used as
"during reading"activities.
Yes Ruth great discussion I am looking forward to the next book! I will talk to you in a little while.
