  1. The Brian P. Sleary,is the author of a series of Poetry Books entitled Under Over By the Clover, A Mink a Fink a Scating Rink and Hairy, Scary, Ordinary. These books were illustrated by Jenya Prosmitsy. The author placed emphasis on rhyming. He presented Language Arts in a fun poetic manner that captializes on students interest.
His books encourages students to enjoy sounds of language in a meaningful way.
The poems focus on different parts of speech; Nouns, Adjectives and Prepositions.
The author blended factual information with rythym. This makes the reading of poems humerous and educational.
Maria, I want you to look keenly on the colours that the examples of the parts of speech are written in. They are brightly coloured. I believe that this will help students to remember what they read.
Do you think the illustrator loved cats? Look on her drawings

  2. I've never seen anything like this..It's such a fresh and new way to introduce poetry to the children. But what is more interesting is how the poet uses poetry to teach grammer. It's very appealing and engaging. The approach is neat and clever. This book can be used at the basic level, elememtary level as well as the secondary level. It has catchy rhymes and illustrations that add appeal to the text and meaning to the text. Its ingeneous. Really funny. Children are learning and having fun simultaneously. And even though it provides humor it also conforms to the elemets of poetry. I think its good very good

  3. I do agree with you Maria. Such interesting anway to integrate Poetry and Grammar. Children will enjoy riding the rythym. The author used poetry to introduce a definition for the different parts of speech involved. Notice that the poems end with a question that ask what the different parts of speech is. These poems can be used as great introductory activities for a Grammar lesson.
I also like the way the author presented the information. It is not crowded. This makes reading of the text easy.
I think this is a great book. I want a copy of the series. It is great to use with the students that I teach and my own.

  5. To extend the lesson the same books could be used to teach the lesson also..whether poetry or grammer. Because the books provides a contextual framework. To teach a grammer lesson..any book chosen provides a framework . For eg. nouns are used in sentences in their appropriate positions with explainations and references. Nouns are not only defined but are used in context...look closer
