  1. The story - I Love Saturdays y domingos was written by Alma Flor Ada and illustrated by Elivia Savadier in the year 2002. It was printed by Aladdin Paperbacks of New York. This book falls into the genre of Modern Realistic Fiction as the main character,is a realistic child living in contemporary society. What do you notice about the cultural accuracy of the two cultures portaryed in the story? Keep in mind that the main character's have two set of grandparents one set being English speaking of European desent and the other being Spanish speaking / Mexican American.

  3. I have found a message of importance in this book. Based on the two cultures portrayed in the story, there are several other cultures apart from mine and I can learn to appreciate and adapt to other cultures just as the author.
Have you found a message too? If you have tell me all about it

  4. The characters in the story all seemed real. The author visits her grand parents on Saturdays and Sundays. In real life this situation exists in some family because parents want to avoid bias' on both sides of the family.

  6. Did you realize that all the characters in the book seem real and that they portrayed their roles well. Grandma and Grandpa along with Abuelito y Abuelita were typical grandparents in their actions. Even the words which they used to relate to their granddaughter showed them as loving people with whom the intended audience would easily identify with. Children who read this book would care deeply about these characters as most children have grandparents who are normally loving people.

  9. In this book I realize that there are many illustrations which seem to correctly display various aspects of both cultures - food eaten for breakfast, dress worn in these cultures and favourite past times. Del I realise that you are a celebration person and so the Birthday party which is the climax of the story appealed to you. Did you see how both cultures came together to have fun. This is a positive side to the book which I really like.

  11. Hi Guys did the plot of the story have a dramatic question that kept you reading?

  12. Yes Yvonne. I was able to learn a few new words in spanish. The cultural issue mostly highlighted was the Spanish Language. Did you notice that the American grandparents like indoor activities which the Spanish Grandparents loved outdoor activities. Do you believe that this is a true representation of these cultures? I believe that this book is a specific Multicultural Literature as it deals with a child growing up in two specific cultural groups. I really like the idea of the Birthday song it opens to the reader a section of the Mexican tradition. Did you like it?

  13. I can't help but comment on the note on the cover given by School Library Journal they said that this book is a strong statement about cultural universality of love. The pictures taken at the Birthday party really displayed this fact you could see a representation of all the cultures in the United States. This text is a perfect example of a Multicultural text.
