A Tree is Nice by Janice May Udry is a simple book with lots of pictures. At first glance I thought that this was too simple but as I read I realized that this book contained a lot of information about trees.
ReplyDeleteThe Caldecott book "THE TREE IS NICE'written by Janice May URDY is appropriate for children in first grade. The language is very simple and has a lot of information about the use of trees
ReplyDeleteI consider "A Tree is Nice" a very interesting book for ages 6 - 7. The wording is simple but the message is powerful. From the text one learns simple science messages. For those of us who have forgotten about the uses of trees have been reminded. This book is multicultural in that trees in every country provides the same usage, for example trees provide shade for all.
ReplyDeleteThis book is a very informative text. As a reader I was able to learn about all the different uses of trees. The author explains that even one tree is nice. While reading one is able to see through words and illustrations that trees are good to have around. The many reasons given were actually factual and I like that. The main message of the text was the fact that Trees are Nice whether you have one tree or many trees. How was the book for you?
ReplyDeleteThe book was published in 1956 by Harper and Row.The cover is appealing to the eye.The colour used on the cover gives a sense of warmth while the picture makes you feel curious to see what is in the book.
ReplyDeleteTracy I am in total agreement with you. The book conveys the message of the title. I see it as a happy book. That means it brings one's spirit alive. I would use this book to convey ideas of new literacies.
ReplyDeleteThis book is very relevant for the present time. It gives information as to why trees are needed. It educates in an indirect way, sothat individuals will avoid cutting down trees and it will also encourage planting of trees. This text is the type of book that one will want to read to the end because it has a friendly tone. Then it shows step by step the importance of trees. The illustrations are just right for the imformation given.
ReplyDeleteIthink the book is multicultural and can be used across culture.Facts presented are relevant to every culture. It is reader friendly and the information is clear and precise. The information used gives a clear understanding of the text.
ReplyDeleteDo you realize that although the book was written in 1956 it is still applicable in the present 21st century? All these facts are truely accurated and they carry your imagination beyond te actual setting. This text really allows us to thin analytically - What if we cut down the trees around us? Would we be able to enjoy all the wonderful attributes which were listed? I don't believe so. The reading of this text has given me a good resource for a Social Studies lesson. Do you realize that the writer's style is very appealing as for each attribute discussed there is a realistic illustration to support the reader's understanding of the content.
ReplyDeleteI really believe that this is a wonderful book. I would recommend it to any child ages 5-6 years.
